This object marks my first intervention in Warsaw and the point of departure for a later series of moving and space-forming objects. It also marks the beginning of a body of work in which architecture, expelled air, material, and social contingency begin to operate against the disciplinary fantasy of controlled form.
The core of the work lies in an anarchic displacement of the parametric. Against the sterile orthodoxy of software, algorithm, and digital form control, it develops an analogue, bodily, and social parameter system. The form is not calculated but blown into being. It is not the computer that models the object, but random passers-by whose lungs, for a brief moment, become productive organs of another architecture.
In wintertime Warsaw, coloured balloons were handed out and inflated. What at first appears as an absurd situation, a stranger, balloons, cold weather, irritation tips into a spatial experiment. More than thirty balloons form a temporary freeform structure, each one different in volume, pressure, duration, and bodily intensity. These differences are not errors. They are the design.
Over this provisional air structure, a 3D mesh textile was laid and impregnated with gypsum and epoxy resin. What had been soft, inflated, and precarious solidified into a sculptural structure. The balloons disappear; their volumes remain as a negative matrix an imprint of temporary anarchy, frozen exhalation, the material echo of a collective loss of control.
Here, the neat separation between architecture, body, event, and object collapses. The work sabotages the assumption that form must emerge from order. Parameters are not numbers here, but bodies; not data sets, but exhalations; not digital variables, but social events. Form is not designed, but negotiated between body, air, material, site, and time.
